Seed processing is all about adding value to the seeds. It comprises all steps necessary for preparation of harvested seeds for marketing. Transforming of harvested seeds into marketable seeds involves drying, preconditioning, cleaning, size grading, treating and packaging.

Some of the main steps in the process include:

  • Drying the seeds to safe moisture levels
  • Removing various undesirable materials, including weed seeds, other crop seeds, deteriorated or damaged seeds, stones, chaff, straw, undersize and light seeds
  • Ensuring uniform size grading. Grading is done by using seed cleaners with the prescribed aperture-size screens as per the Indian Minimum Seed Certification Standards.
  • Seed treatment to upgrade the overall seed quality. Seeds are treated with prescribed doses of fungicides and insecticides against disease causing pathogens, pests and prescribed polymers to enhance the physical appearance of the seeds.
  • Seed packaging

The final packed produce is stored in scientifically built godowns / cold storage for maintaining excellent seed quality.
